PATIENTS RIGHTS

Patients have the right to impartial access to medical treatment or accommodations, regardless of race, national origin, religion, physical handicap, or source of payment.

Patients have the right to be treated with courtesy and respect, with appreciation of his or her individual dignity and with protection of his or her need for privacy.

Patients have the right to know the status of the individual who is giving them care, the practitioners who are involved in their care and to know of any relationships among individuals or institutions involved in their care.

Patients or their legal representatives have the right to obtain complete, current, and understandable information concerning their diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

Patients have the right to know what patient support services are available, including whether an interpreter is available if he or she does not speak English.

Patients have the right to receive as much information about any proposed treatment or procedure as he or she may need in order to give informed consent or to refuse this course of treatment. Except in emergencies, this information shall include a description of the procedure or treatment, the medically significant risks involved and knowledge of the name of the person who will carry out the procedure or treatment.

Patients have the right to consult a specialist at their own expense and request.

Patients and/or families have a legal right to participate actively in decisions regarding his or her medical care. To the extent permitted by law, including the right to refuse treatment.

Patients have the right to expect that any interviews, exams, and consultations will be conducted for their privacy and tat all their records will remain confidential.

Patients have the right to a prompt and reasonable response to questions and requests.

Patients have the right to an itemized and detailed explanation of the total bill for services rendered in the facility.

Patients have the right to leave this Center even against the advice of his or her physicians.

Patients have the right to refuse to participate in experimental research.

Patients have the right to be informed by his or her physician or a delegate of the physician to be informed of any continuing healthcare needs following discharge from the facility.

Patients have the right to voice dissatisfaction concerning patient care issues.

Patients have the right to obtain a written copy of their rights as a patient.
